Sankranthiki Vasthunam Review: A Comedic Festive Ride With Mixed Results

The movie is, however one that asks one to suspend all logic and rationality and grin along with whatever humor it conjures up-forced at many times.

Storyline

The plot revolves around the kidnapping of Akella (Srinivas Avasarala), which raises a furore among the political circles, especially the Chief Minister (Naresh). In order to save the situation, Venkatesh's character, YD Raju, is brought in by his ex-girlfriend Meenu (Meenakshi Chaudhary). His wife, played by Aishwarya Rajesh, also joins the fray, which leads to a series of comic events during the rescue process. The movie is, however one that asks one to suspend all logic and rationality and grin along with whatever humor it conjures up-forced at many times.

Positive Points

Venkatesh holds the film above water with ease, playing it light and simple as the comedical hero caught between the two women; Aishwarya Rajesh and Meenakshi Chaudhary are also good in the respective roles. There's some fun in the chemistry of Venkatesh and Muralidhar Goud and some family scenes bring out honest humor. There is a breath of fresh air in the over-the-top child artist Ravanth, thanks to his over-the-top performance with web series jibes. For fans of Anil Ravipudi, the first half is quite satisfactory with decent fun.

Negative Points

The movie does not take time to become a routine right after many comic moments that it starts soon. The second half is a sharp turn into exaggerated over-the-top sequences, especially the "Papa Bhai" episode, which feels forced and chaotic. Humor becomes tired, and the writing does not match the energy it is trying to deliver. A final attempt at adding a moral message with a teacher track feels awkwardly tacked on to the rest of the story, almost as if added at the last minute to provide some substance.

Overall Verdict

It will entertain the people who look for light comedy in the festive season, but as far as the writing and originality are concerned, it has disappointed. It was enjoyable only due to performances and family-friendly moments, and this exaggeration and incoherence of humor have made it forgettable. A one-time watch for those who want a careless film this Sankranti.
