In a communication on Thursday, BigHit Music, BTS label, informed the world about an innovative strategy. They announced that the famous K-pop band would share the official video for its song “Normal” on Spotify on Friday at 1 p.m. The release will contain three other mixes of the song: one version is in Korean, while the other is instrumental.
A teaser for the video dropped at midnight Thursday on the YouTube channel of HYBE Labels, BigHit Music’s parent company. This short video was filmed in a bathroom, showing the group behind their backs standing in one line. The band leader RM then shows up, slipping through the space between the others. This is what the company calls a unique glimpse into the lives of the bandmen outside of the spotlights.
This teaser has put an end to the series of speculations that have emerged recently. Earlier in July, striking advertising images were published in numerous major newspapers and magazines, including The Chronicle and The Post. The ads showed unusual pictures with headlines open to various interpretations, and so a flurry of fan speculation started. Now, BigHit Music states that this picture is a screenshot from the “Normal” video.
"Normal" appears on BTS’ fifth studio album, ARIRANG, which launched in March. The distinctive sound of the alternative pop single includes a forceful beat and snare-dominated music, making the track quite special in its genre. The song also contains thoughtful lyrics that describe the mundane lives and thoughts of the band's members. Unlike the uplifting music that is typical for the collective, "Normal" offers a down-to-earth and relatable approach toward life in the modern world.
The song started strongly at No. 41 on the list published by Billboard on 4 April and instantly gained traction in the USA. At the same time, the album ARIRANG exhibited tremendous sales longevity by reaching the top of Billboard’s list of the best-selling albums for three weeks in a row. The album continues to be successful and occupies position No. 25 on the updated Billboard’s list as of 18 July.
The first single of the album, entitled "SWIM," is still on the list as well, occupying position No. 84 in its week No. 16. The lead single "SWIM" continues its chart run, currently sitting at No. 84 on the Hot 100 in its 16th week. Broader success is evident across Billboard’s global rankings: five tracks from ARIRANG, including the newer addition "Come Over," are charting on the Global 200, while ten songs appear on the Global Excl. U.S. chart. These indications reveal BTS’ ongoing importance in the market.
Another buzz-generating item from the teaser is the bathroom idea, which is believed to symbolize the personal moments of life that take place beyond people’s public appearance. Such creative elements have helped BTS strengthen the bond with the audience by building bridges between insecurity and art.
Being one of the globally successful performers, BTS has defined the new standards of commercial success combined with the art of storytelling, which the release of "Normal" video will become another proof of. BigHit Music has not yet disclosed additional details about the full video’s length or other creative collaborators, but anticipation remains high following the teaser’s warm reception. Fans are encouraged to check Spotify at the scheduled premiere time for the first official viewing.
This newest chapter in BTS’ career shows the group's ability to remain relevant and adaptable. Thanks to constant triumph on the music charts and innovative marketing techniques, ARIRANG and its tracks establish a lasting impression on their audience, demonstrating the fact that, despite being in music for many years, BTS has the ability to amaze people and establish connections with the public through its music which has both specific and universal characteristics.
