Dhakoli's Family Appeals For Security After Threats Of Shooting; Punjab Govt Urged For Protection

Anita Rani, a resident of Mamta Enclave, Dhakoli, has made a fervent appeal to the Punjab Government for the safety and security of herself and her family. Speaking at a press conference held at the Chandigarh Press Club, Anita Rani recounted her distressing situation caused by an individual who deceitfully managed to transfer ownership of her home to his name eight years ago, and who is now issuing grave threats to her and her family's lives.
Anita Rani revealed that her husband, Rajinder Kumar, is currently unwell, while her son's mental state has been deeply affected by the constant menacing threats. Her efforts to seek justice began when she lodged a case (No. 305/2015) at the Zirakpur (now Dhakoli) police station on December 10, 2015, under sections 354 and 420 against Sukhdev Chowdhary, the son of Joginder Singh from Zirakpur, along with his accomplices. Despite the registered complaint, the police remained inactive for an astonishing span of eight years. Only after the Punjab and Haryana High Court's intervention did the police finally file charges on July 31, 2023. However, this development triggered an escalation in the threats directed toward Anita Rani's family, compelling them to reconsider pursuing the case. It is worth noting that the family had previously been subjected to similar threats.

Disturbingly, Sukhdev Chowdhary identifies himself as a leader of the Aam Aadmi Party and brazenly proclaims his intent to eliminate Anita Rani. He boasts about his supposed immunity from any harm by the Punjab Police and claims to possess influential connections within the state government. The accused has even managed to obtain a firearm through fraudulent means, further exacerbating the peril.
Despite reporting the matter to higher-ranking police authorities, Anita Rani's pleas have fallen on deaf ears. Standing alongside her lawyer, she implored the Punjab Government to take swift and decisive action against Sukhdev Chowdhary. Her demands encompass the cancellation of his bail and arms license, as well as the provision of comprehensive protection for her family, ensuring their safety from the imminent danger posed by the accused. The harrowing ordeal endured by Anita Rani and her family underscores the urgency of their plea for justice and security in the face of relentless threats and intimidation.
