Today is going to be a special day for hockey in India as the Women's Hockey India League makes its debut. After men's HIL returned last year, this year it is all set to prove the fact that the Indian women hockey players are of equal calibre as well and shall take the game to a further level in India. This is after India's women's hockey team gave the world an incredible show in the Tokyo Olympics when it finished with a very good fourth position even as it missed qualification for the Paris Olympics.
The Women's HIL is viewed in its inaugural season with four teams: Delhi SG Pipers, Shrachi Rarh Bengal Tigers, Soorma Hockey Club, and Odisha Warriors. Which was marketed as a six-team tournament, the competition will have a double round-robin before the final on January 26.
