WhatsApp Introduces 'Channels' For Broadcast Messaging, Allowing Users To Receive Updates From Individuals And Organizations
WhatsApp, owned by Meta, has introduced a new feature called "Channels" within its app, allowing users to receive important updates from individuals and organizations in a simple, reliable, and private manner.
The company has created a dedicated tab called Updates, where users can access Status and the channels they choose to follow. This feature is separate from their regular chats with family, friends, and communities. Channels serve as a one-way broadcast tool for administrators to share various types of content, including text, photos, videos, stickers, and polls. To assist users in finding relevant channels to follow, WhatsApp is developing a searchable directory that will include a wide range of options such as hobbies, sports teams, updates from local officials, and more.
Accessing a channel is made easy through invite links shared in chats, emails, or posted online. This allows users to join channels of interest with convenience and efficiency.
