United For Cleaner Air: Dr. Urvashi Mittal Urges Collective Responsibility To Combat Pollution Crisis

The Worsening Air Quality Index (AQI) and mounting pollution levels have been making life even harder for humans as well as animals. And now's the time. Rather than blaming everybody else, we need to take some responsibility for this disaster. When you point a finger at someone, there are three fingers pointing back to you. Change has to begin with individual responsibility supported by governments, NGOs, and corporations.

A dedicated social worker, Dr Urvashi Mittal, while speaking at a press conference at the Press Club of India, Raisena Road, on November 21, 2024, emphasized:

Charity begins at home. Small but consistent efforts, like carrying reusable steel flasks and segregating waste at home, can bring big change. Individual actions, coupled with collective support, will lead us toward a sustainable future. Every small drop contributes to filling the ocean of change.

Dr. Mittal stated that the mindset of going from the culture of blame to be responsible and encouraging others for shift to eco-friendly practices needed to be prominent. She emphasized the need for infrastructure that augments one's efforts, supportive. For example, the government should provide outlets that are available and affordable for people to refill their water bottles, reducing the need for single use of plastics as such action would help to reduce pollution, it would also prove economical to the public need.

Similarly, RWAs must ensure a proper wastage management facility. Without proper wastage collection, individual efforts at segregation make no sense. Hospitals and hotels and even institutions of all kind have to actively participate in efforts to preserve the environment, making it widespread and impactful.

Urging collective action, Dr Mittal said, "We must translate apathy into action and individualism into collective ownership. It is our responsibility to make a healthier, greener planet for generations to come." Only through collaboration and effort can we restore damage inflicted on the environment. Let us claim responsibility for our actions and act together to create a breathable future. The power to make all the difference lies in our hands.
