Sofia Firdous Makes History By Becoming Odisha's First Muslim Woman MLA
The 32-year-old abandoned her career as a real estate developer for the sake of taking part in the elections.
Mohammed Moquim, the father of Sofia Firdous, was the incumbent Congress MLA representing Cuttack in Odisha for his reelection campaign. Sofia Firdous was all in to support her father, but just a month before the start of the stated assembly elections, Mohammed Moquim was given a piece of bad news. It was discovered that Mr. Moquim will not be eligible to contest the polls.
Mohammed Moquim also served as the managing director of Metro Group, his real estate firm. The Supreme Court had not intervened in his conviction related to a loan fraud case involving the Orissa Rural Housing Development Corporation, and this was the reason behind his being disqualified from contesting the polls.
