Kia will unveil the new Kia Sorento on September 4, its latest foray into the Indian premium SUV market. Sorento emerges as Kia’s flagship ICE vehicle and also as the brand’s first-ever three-row ICE SUV and its first hybrid in India. The new SUV will be available in a dual powertrain option of a strong-hybrid petrol engine and a diesel engine with the hybrid offering an AWD system, which could provide it a competitive edge over the rivals.
Kia has also begun the production of the Sorento suitable for the Indian market in Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh. Kia is counting on the high degree of local production that Sorento has undergone to keep the prices competitive. Though there is no final word on the pricing till the day of the launch, the price of Sorento is expected to be in the range of Rs 30-35 lakh (ex-showroom).
Key Features
- Power-packed Hybrid Powertrain: The new Sorento will be powered by a strong hybrid engine featuring a 1.6-litre turbo-petrol hybrid engine with an output of 238 hp and a torque of 380Nm. An automatic transmission will be mated with the engine along with AWD.
- Diesel Engine: People who prefer traditional powertrains have a reason to rejoice because the engine that develops 202 hp in power with a torque of 441 Nm is the 2.0-litre diesel engine. It is also utilized in the Kia Carnival.
- Seating: The SUV will be available in six seats or seven seats configurations that suit the needs of families looking for space.
- Appealing design: The SUV incorporates the Tiger Nose grill created by Kia, along with vertical LED lights, and the air intake system. The inverted L-shaped rear lights would also make the SUV recognisable.
- Stylish interior: The dashboard interior features a modern look with a combination of analog and digital displays for instrumentation and infotainment purposes. The cabin looks classy as well with the use of high-quality materials and switchgear that can perform such functions as climate control and media.
- Technologically advanced features: The Sorento includes an advanced suite of features including ADAS, 360-degree camera, panoramic sunroof, digital IRVM (inside rearview mirror), ambient lighting, dual-zone climate control and powered tailgate.
- Comfort level: We expect ventilated seats in the front, possibly with massage function as well, which would elevate the premium factor of the car.
The KIA AI Assistant will be one of the important features of the upcoming Sorento, which will make its debut with the India-specific version of the SUV. - Hybrid AWD: The combination of hybrid drivetrain and AWD system is expected to make the Sorento different from its competitors.
