Opposition leaders, including Congress's Rahul Gandhi, convened in Mumbai under the banner of the INDIA (Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance) grouping, criticizing the ruling BJP ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Gandhi emphasized the necessity of his Bharat Jodo yatras to address pressing issues such as unemployment, inflation, and societal division.
At the mega rally held at Mumbai's Shivaji Park, Gandhi asserted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's electoral success relies on entities like EVMs, ED, CBI, and Income Tax. He accused Modi of wielding a monopoly over corruption and suggested that political defections, such as those within Shiv Sena and NCP, were orchestrated maneuvers.
Gandhi underscored the importance of electoral integrity, advocating for VVPAT verification, yet lamented that their demands had not been met by the Election Commission of India. He envisioned Mumbai's potential as a manufacturing hub but criticized governmental impediments to Dharavi's redevelopment.
