El Salvador erupted in jubilation as President Bukele declared an overwhelming victory in the first round of re-election, citing his aggressive anti-gang measures as a key factor. Bukele claimed an impressive triumph, securing over 85 percent of the presidential vote, while his party, Nuevas Ideas, clinched 58 out of 60 parliamentary seats. In a victory speech delivered prior to official results, Bukele emphasized his perceived historic lead in global democratic presidential elections.

Partial results from the Supreme Electoral Tribunal affirmed Bukele's dominance, revealing nearly 83 percent of the votes in his favor. The president, celebrated for his tough stance on gangs, boldly declared El Salvador as the first country with a "one-party system in a democracy." Bukele's controversial tactics, such as mass arrests and the construction of a significant new prison, have contributed to a substantial reduction in the country's once-high homicide rates.
