Ghostbusters Frozen Empire Movie Review: Paul Rudd's Film Turned Out To Be Underwhelming
The film's scope is very ambitious, but some storylines remain underdeveloped.
Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire is the fifth installment of the fantasy horror franchise. The film tries to capture the nostalgic feel of earlier films but doesn't quite succeed in capturing the same magic. Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire is directed by Gil Kenan, and although the film does have some bright spots, it ultimately fails to provide an excellent cinematic experience. The interaction between the original Ghostbusters is fun, but the plot sometimes gets confusing.
Storyline
"Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire" takes place two years after the events of "Ghostbusters: Afterlife." The film features a brand new generation of Ghostbusters who are facing some scary creatures. Gary Grooberson (Paul Rudd), along with his girlfriend Callie Spengler (Carrie Coon) and her children Trevor (Finn Wolfhard) and Phoebe (McKenna Grace), are the main characters of the film, and we see them facing some legal issues after it is discovered that Phoebe has been involved in some ghostly encounter. In the film, we also see Phoebe forming a deep friendship with a ghost named Melody. Melody dies in a tragic fire accident, and that adds depth to the plot of Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire. Ultimately, the film becomes muddled with numerous characters and side stories, which makes it hard to follow the main plot that revolves around an ancient artifact and a looming ice age threat.
