The fourth season of From, a horror-thriller series raises the stakes to a whole new level. The story has built a dense mythology over three seasons, and will reach its most intense, climactic point at this point of the series. From primary storyteller to supporting charatcers, every character has presented conflicting information throughout season 1-3 that leads to a variety of theories and questioning.

Storyline

The story continues to take place in a mysterious town where its inhabitants are continually trapped with no escape from their captors, with the same creatures emerging from the woods as the sun goes down, making each day a new struggle for survival. Boyd Stevens, Tabitha Matthews and others are drawing closer to uncovering the truth about the town, however each page turned delivers an expected danger to them and the risks are mounting. Tabitha's previous connection to the town and Boyd's ability to vanquish some of the creatures they are battling are major themes throughout. Sofia, a new character introduced in this season, will provide a much different traitor/ally dynamic to the current characters and their plot; thus creating a new level of intrigue and suspense.

Positive Points

Season 4 has many unexpected twists and extreme intensity to keep viewers invested. Also, the confidence of the storytelling is improved by a more steady pacing and better placed shocks. The performances, particularly by Harold Perrineau, help provide an emotional anchor for the series and the horror elements have become sharpened with great use of make-up effects and a darker atmosphere. Finally, season 4 expands its mythological framework while maintaining tensions so long-time fans will feel more rewarded.

Negative Points

New viewers will find it difficult to get into this series because of all the conflicting issues caused by the increasing complexity of the series. The stories themselves are continually being manufactured with more out of an effort to prolong them than for any other reason. Some plots will have existed long enough to create frustration in the viewers waiting to see how/if it will end.

Overall: For fans of this show who have stayed with it since the beginning, Season Four marks the opening of a brand new chapter combining all three elements (horror, mystery and ongoing character development) into one; even though it may be more complex than previous seasons, fans will find this to also be an entertaining and satisfying experience.
