"Nagabandham," directed by Abhishek Nama features three main characters - Virat Karna, nabha Natesh, and Aishwarya Menon. This film was very popular with audiences due to how well it's teaser and trailer were created for the film. It is also produced on a very large scale and has action, mystery, spirituality and drama involved. It uses ancient legends from Indian mythology, temples and other parts of the world as inspiration for the film. The film has outstanding technical execution but the totality of the story’s telling doesn’t measure up to the ambitious scale of the film.

Storyline

Archaeologist Prabhakar discovers an ancient tome that may lead to a legendary Nagabandham. He is murdered by Zulfikar Ali, a violent criminal who has taken Prabhakar's granddaughter Mira hostage and will not release her unless he has the Brahma Kamalam, a rare flower that only grows in Bhairava Kona, an area known as the "death zone," as nobody returns alive from there. Rudra is a young man who needs money to help support his family, and unknowingly finds his way into the mystical world where the flowers will end up. As secrets are uncovered, Rudra learns there is a centuries-old connection between him and an old Naga Sadhu and is now involved in a battle between destiny, mythology, and powerful enemies.

Positive Points

  • The production elements within Nagabandham are by far the most significant asset of this film being able to create an immersive cinematic universe using spectacular set design of temples to VFX used throughout, and the level of cinematography raised the bar to create a full cinematic journey.
  • The performance from Virat Karna (as both characters in the film) keeps us engaged throughout the action scenes, along with the character played by Nabha Natesh feels very developed & progressed throughout and brings both emotional weight as well as complex elements into her performance.
  • The seniority of Jagapathi Babu & Murali Sharma help bring credibility to their performances and the background score aid the viewer's ability to feel or enjoy the devotional aspect of the film.
  • The action elements within this film (specifically the action sequences involving Bhairava Kona) provide both visually stunning material to watch.

Negative Points

  • Although this film has a large visual presence it is let down by a very poor/simple screenplay that is repetitive in its nature to the central story element.
  • Nagabandham is an aesthetically beautiful mythological film with excellent production values, action, and technical quality.
  • Unfortunately, it fails to deliver an unforgettable spectacle due to its predictable storyline, long run time, and a poorly developed screenplay not something that will keep mythology or large-scale films-interesting; however, for people that enjoy these kinds of films, they may find it worthy of watching, while others expecting solid narratives could be left disappointed!
  • Many of the supporting cast (Aishwarya Menon/Anasuya) had no opportunity to develop their character within the film, and the lack of development of some key plot devices within the film would lend itself to being continued in another film.

Overall: Nagabandham is very well done but the story is predictable (not enough twist), stretches out too long, and has an inadequate amount of character development within each episode which diminishes its impact as a great work of art (as an epic). While this will appeal to those who enjoy a good story and a lot of dazzling visuals, people looking for a good story and more cohesively written episode will likely be disappointed with the overall experience.
