Adipurush Movie Review: Prabhas-Starrer Reduces Ramayana To Soulless Spectacle, Lacking Emotional Depth
Adipurush Movie Review

StarCast: Prabhas, Kriti Sanon, Saif Ali Khan, Sunny Singh, and Devdatta Nage

Adipurush, directed by Om Raut, attempts to reimagine a part of the Ramayana but unfortunately falls short in delivering a compelling adaptation. The film lacks creative integrity and storytelling acumen, failing to do justice to the epic and its culturally significant characters. The visual elements, while ambitious, lack imagination and do not resonate with the Indian subcontinent. Adipurush feels like a mishmash of Hollywood superhero movies, Planet of the Apes, and King Kong, presenting Lord Rama as a comic book hero and Sita as a weak damsel in distress.

The film heavily relies on computer imagery and visual effects, but the execution is lacking, making the visuals appear artificial and unbelievable. The attention to detail and execution of the human characters is also lacking, with their movements feeling unnatural. The overuse of technical wizardry detracts from the authenticity of the Indian epic and feels derivative of Hollywood rather than rooted in Indian ethos.

Furthermore, Adipurush marginalizes its female characters, relegating them to the sidelines and depriving them of meaningful agency. The treatment of women in the film reflects a cavalier attitude and diminishes their significance in the narrative.

Saif Ali Khan's portrayal of Ravana stands out, but the impact is hindered by stilted dialogue delivery. Prabhas brings a strong screen presence, but it is wasted in an undeserving film. The sound design is excessively loud and lacks creativity, adding to the overall disappointment.

In conclusion, Adipurush fails to deliver a compelling adaptation of the Ramayana. Its lack of creative integrity, underdeveloped storytelling, and questionable visual choices detract from the epic's grandeur. The marginalization of female characters and shortcomings in dialogue and sound design further contributes to the film's overall shortcomings.
