Despite this, the film's writer, Dheeraj Mishra, has refuted these allegations and stood by Urvashi's casting.
In a detailed conversation with Amar Ujala, Dheeraj Mishra, the writer of the biopic, revealed that he has been working on Parveen Babi's story even before the COVID-19 pandemic. During his research, he had the opportunity to meet some of Parveen Babi's relatives, who were relatively unknown to the public. Dheeraj Mishra had previously collaborated with filmmaker BR Ishara and gained insights into Parveen Babi's life through their discussions. The information he gathered from those interactions will be incorporated into the biopic.
Regarding Urvashi Rautela's casting, Dheeraj Mishra explained that before finalizing her, they had considered actresses such as Sonakshi Sinha and Shraddha Kapoor for the role. However, when they saw Urvashi's performance in the music video "Jawani Teri Bijli Ki Taar Hai," specifically her resemblance to Parveen Babi, they were convinced that she would be the perfect fit. They were also seeking an actress who hadn't appeared in too many films to bring a fresh perspective to the character of Parveen Babi.
