Star second baseman José Altuve and the Houston Astros have agreed to a lucrative contract extension spanning five years, running until 2029. The undisclosed multiyear deal was confirmed by the Astros, solidifying Altuve's future with the team.

The specifics of the agreement, including a $15 million signing bonus pending MLB approval, have not been officially disclosed. Altuve, a renowned eight-time All-Star and former AL MVP, was set to become a free agent after the upcoming baseball season.

Under the terms of the new contract, Altuve will receive annual salaries of $30 million from 2025 to 2027, followed by $10 million each for 2028 and 2029. Despite injury setbacks last season, Altuve maintained impressive performance, boasting a .311 batting average along with 15 home runs, 51 RBIs, and 14 stolen bases in 90 games.
