Dulquer Salmaan makes his comeback in a lead role in the Malayalam film I’m Game, an action thriller film directed by Nahas Hidhayath. The film has garnered positive expectations after the success of Nahas’s film, RDX, released earlier this year. Courtesy of an interesting trailer, stylish execution, and a unique concept, I’m Game has generated good hype. The cast of I’m Game includes Kayadu Lohar, making her Malayalam debut, along with other notable actors like Antony Varghese, Mysskin, Samyuktha Viswanathan, Kathir, and Jaya Sudha. So, does Dulquer manage to bounce back strongly in Malayalam movies? The answer is not clear.
Storyline
The main character in the story is Dan John (played by Dulquer Salmaan), a gambler who suffers from addiction to gambling and loses money consistently but does not give up. Although Dan John's father is a millionaire, Dan wants to achieve things in life using only his own efforts without relying on his father’s money. Dan gets himself into a dire situation when he has to repay a huge sum of money within a time limit of 24 hours. He decides to place the ₹60 lakh that he has on cricket betting to get himself out of this situation. Unfortunately, his bet backfires, and he loses everything. Desperate now, Dan decides to approach the people running the betting racket to get his money back. In the course of escaping from them, Dan suffers a serious injury to his hand. Consequently, a hand transplant is done on him. But then the transplanted hand starts behaving erratically. As he struggles to comprehend what is happening to him, he learns about the mystery of the hand as well as that of the mysterious donor.
Positive Points
The greatest highlight of the movie I’m Game is, without doubt, its first half. In a captivating manner, Nahas Hidhayath presents the main idea and takes time to intrigue the audience about Dan’s accident and consequences after the hand transplantation. It is during the second part of the film when dramatic actions of the protagonist related to his new hand makes the movie more fascinating. After a remarkable start with the fantasy-thriller idea, the director is able to create the tension about what manages Dan and why it does so. Some episodes make one feel real pressure during the movie, but the screenplay can keep to the main mystery of I’m Game. Dulquer Salmaan is one of the main advantages of the film as he has the proper charisma and confidence for Dan John. He is able to express appropriate emotions during the thriller episodes and make the viewers believe in him. Samyuktha Viswanathan is another talented actor whose performance is praiseworthy. Antony Varghese is also able to perform at the right level, while Kayadu Lohar does her best in accordance with her role.
