Dhanteras, a term intertwining "wealth" (Dhan) and "thirteenth" (Teras), holds profound significance in Hindu traditions. Devotees seize this occasion to pay homage to Lord Kuber and Goddess Lakshmi, revered deities of prosperity and wealth. The belief is deeply rooted that significant purchases made on this day beckon blessings and prosperity into one's life, inaugurating the illustrious five-day Diwali festival, culminating in Bhai Dooj.
The festivities kick off during the auspicious Pardosh Kaal, dedicated to the worship of Goddess Lakshmi. Rituals commence with the presentation of a new piece of cloth on a raised platform, accompanied by a scattering of grains in the center. A kalash, adorned with gangajal, betel nut, a flower, a coin, mango leaves, and rice grains, takes its place. Over the grains, a lotus is intricately drawn with haldi powder, and the idols of Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha find their position. The ceremony unfolds with the lighting of a lamp and the offering of flowers, haldi, and vermillion.
