Apple Partners With Anthropic To Develop AI-Powered Xcode With “Vibe Coding” Capabilities

Apple is developing a new AI-based coding tool with Anthropic, a Seattle-based AI startup that has been supported by Amazon. The breakthrough software, an account in a recent Bloomberg News report stated, will transform the way developers write, edit, and execute code by embedding top-of-the-line AI functionality within Apple's Xcode framework. The project is involved in a unique approach to writing software code, known as "vibe coding," where the code is produced by AI agents independently with minimal human involvement a new trend within the technology world.
The new version of Xcode powered by AI will include integration with Claude Sonnet, which is one of the best large language models created by Anthropic. The alliance aims to give developers an end-to-end experience whereby artificial intelligence is used throughout the entire development process, ranging from coding the first code to testing and debugging. Anthropic declined to comment on the agreement, and Apple also does not comment on the specifics of the alliance.
According to Bloomberg, citing sources, the platform is currently in its early stages and is being tested internally at Apple. There has not been an official announcement yet for a public rollout, meaning that the tool will be used exclusively by Apple engineers for the foreseeable future.
This is Apple's second attempt at using AI-based code software. Apple had launched AI-powered assistant Swift Assist for Xcode in 2024 to help developers code faster. The product did not make it among developers. Apple engineers have been reported to be skeptical about whether Swift Assist will slow down, rather than speed up, app development.
The new "vibe coding" initiative is the latest indicator of Apple's broader ambition to expand its AI portfolio, especially as top tech companies race to bring generative AI into development environments. If successful, this AI-powered Xcode could not only enhance productivity within, but also radically alter application development in Apple's universe far into the future.
For the time being, the world of technology holds its breath as Apple prepares to take its next giant leap towards AI-based development in silence.
