Yamaha is going to step into the electric two-wheeler segment. Its recently registered patent in Japan has shown a model of a completely new electric scooter which seems to be almost production-ready already. The company hasn’t confirmed anything yet, but there are indications that Yamaha is going to offer a top-notch city electric vehicle. The scooter is said to be reminiscent of the Ray ZR 125 but comes with its own completely new electric platform. If the vehicle makes its way to the Indian market, it will surely be a tough opponent to electric two-wheelers already available by TVS, Bajaj, and Hero MotoCorp.

Yamaha hasn’t revealed the pricing or timing for a launch as the scooter is yet to more than a design patent. If this arrives in India, it will be on the list of electric scooters in the high range that will be priced between ₹1.20 lakh and ₹1.50 lakh (ex-showroom). It may face competition from products including TVS iQube and Vida VX2 along with premium scooters like Bajaj Chetak.
