The much-awaited release of Mirzapur The Movie brings the much-anticipated world of crime, power, revenge, and complicated relationships to the big screen. Featuring a stellar lineup and a new plot, the film looks to deliver something fresh to the audiences instead of just prolonging the story of the web series. It is filled with drama, action, and comedy while featuring some familiar faces. Even though there are many fun aspects of the movie, it doesn’t deliver the same impact as the original Mirzapur web series. 

Storyline

Kaleen Bhaiyya or Akhandanand Tripathi, has expanded his empire in spite of the fact that he had to deal with the political pressure imposed by JP Yadav. At the same time, Guddu Pandit and Babloo look for a good business deal, finding Babban Babua, an influential criminal who has stolen a drug shipment. In the meantime, Munna Tripathi is coming back to his father, hoping to gain approval from him, feeling jealous of Guddu. The situation is complicated, with a number of new plans and betrayals coming together in the plot.

A New Tale But a Generic Concept  

One of the biggest advantages of Mirzapur The Movie is that it does not repeat itself. It has given the franchise a new direction while continuing to keep some elements of it intact in the film. The film has all the usual components of power struggles, drama, action, comic elements, and emotional moments. Through its narrative, it helps the characters create new situations but some scenes could have had more impact. It understands that the audience has certain expectations from the film. The movie retains the original identity but gives it a new twist.

Munna and Guddu Bromance

Such chemistry is important for the film as it provides the viewers with some exceptionally interesting emotions through the scenes, presenting entertaining and funny moments. Unlike other scenes in the film, in such scenes we are allowed to have fun. The role of Munna is played by Divyendu, who always keeps confirming that he is among the best characters in the series. It can be said that Divyendu has managed to charm the audience with his great performance, and he has shown exceptional acting skills. Moreover, Guddu too gets to have lots of moments to grab viewers’ attention, and the duo is one of the main reasons to watch the film.

A Combination of Action, Drama and Comedy

The movie is a good example of combination of different genres. It has enough action for fans who want some fight and confrontation in the film, but the comedy allows the film not to be very serious. The dramatic scenes in the film are also good in some moments. It is mainly about the relationships and interpersonal issues of the characters. Besides, the film does not rely solely on fights but tries to add an emotional touch to it. Nevertheless, one can say that there are some places in the film where it could be shorter. It is possible to say that the film could have been quicker since it does not always have perfect rhythm.

Ravi Kishan's Excessive Screen Time Is a Dilemma

The greatest positive feature of the film is its ensemble cast but sadly, at the same time, this is its negative feature as well. Ravi Kishan makes his presence felt a bit too much in the film. Ravi nevertheless does help in carrying the film forward in the right direction but if the director had managed the film better in terms of time given to actors, it would have been a better product. Likewise, Abhishek Banerjee does not make a proper mark on the audience. He is supposed to be an actor of repute and highly talented actor but his work in the film does not justify this. Another disappointing element in this film is Rasika Duggal who is also seen very little even though her character is significant enough for more screen time.

The original Mirzapur web series benefitted from having multiple episodes and seasons which gave the makers sufficient time to flesh out characters, relationships and conflicts. The element of unpredictability and rawness that made the web series such a huge hit is missing from this film. However, if looked at as a standalone film, it has a fighting chance. The film is not a scene-by-scene photocopy of the series but offers a new story altogether.
