Netflix has released its first original Telugu comedy series titled 'Super Subbu' which stars Sundeep Kishan in the leading role and also showcases an interesting trailer that will provide viewers with a mix of comedy, social messaging and small town drama. Directed by Mallik Ram, the show provides a unique take on how to teach people about sex education in an entertaining way.

Super Subbu Storyline

The story follows the journey of Subbu, a young man from the city, who finds himself unexpectedly in the quirky village of Maakipur; a village known for having one of the highest birth rates in the country, thus making sex education a priority there. As luck would have it, Subbu has been given the position of "Sex Education Officer" (SEO) in this village, even though he has very little experience or knowledge of the topic himself.

The trailer portrays how ironic the situation is; the shy and inexperienced Subbu is now responsible for teaching the villagers about relationships, consent, and reproductive health. Subbu’s father, played by Murali Sharma, is also in the picture; however, he has a very traditional attitude towards life in general which contrasts with the nature of Subbu’s new job as an SEO. Thus, Subbu must find a way to achieve his new job as an SEO while also trying to get along with his dad.

Super Subbu Positive Points

An exceptional premise makes this film unique from other films with a similar premise; the film’s premise of an unqualified male educator teaching sex education leads to comedies for both demographics but also an important discussion of the topic.

Sundeep Kishan is well cast as the film’s primary protagonist because he exhibits a child-like innocence that complements the other main character. Other elements that contribute to the overall enjoyment of Super Subbu are the film’s rural environment, humorous dialogue, and mixed ethnic characters within the film. Additionally, the trailer makes it evident that they will handle consensuality as well as education about sex in such a way that you don't feel lectured.

Super Subbu Drawbacks 

Although the premise is refreshing, it is possible that several jokes could feel recycled if they rely too heavily on awkwardness. Plus, since they've shown us all the best comedic moments in the trailer already, the audience should expect to be surprised by what they see when this releases as opposed to what they see in the trailer.

Overall: Thus, Super Subbu looks like an apt social comedy to mix fun with a meaningful message. It has a great chance to hit big on Netflix while garnering an even deeper conversation around sex. This is thanks to its concept that sets it apart, a strong cast, and wonderful rural settings.
